Guide
What referring lawyers should expect from mediation software
When you refer clients to an external mediator, you need progress visibility without becoming the go-between. Mediation software on the mediator side can give your firm a read-only view — but it does not replace your practice management system or legal advice to clients.
General information only — not legal advice, mediation advice, or a substitute for professional judgment. CounselOS Mediation is administrative software; mediators and lawyers remain responsible for their work.
Updated
Matter visibility without double entry
A lawyer portal should show booking status, intake completion, fee status, and a timeline of key events. You should not need to call the mediator for every update.
Secure brief upload
Upload mediation briefs through a secure portal rather than emailing attachments. Confirm how long documents are retained and where they are hosted.
Know the limits
Mediator software complements — does not replace — your firm matter management, trust accounting, and governed AI tools. Firms preparing clients for mediation may still need CounselOS or similar legal practice management on the firm side.
- Read-only access for referred matters only
- No legal advice from the software vendor
- Parties follow mediator-branded emails — not your firm portal unless integrated later
